I popped over to Wimbledon the other day to see Caroline Yates’ solo show at Hicks Gallery (on until 27th October).

Her work is beautiful, apparently now veering more toward the abstract than previously, but there are still discernible figures, in crowds and apart, blurring in and out of focus, gathering and coming away from one another.
Caroline’s colour palette is wonderful – calm, earthy pastels mixed with the odd shot of hot red or inky blue.
The show is called ‘Palimpsest’ and her paintings really do conjure the idea of something showing through, layers peeling back and covering over, revealing and hiding in equal measure.
